This is horrifying. Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) is a worldwide network of police departments established to help countries capture criminals who cross borders. Saudi Arabia recently used an Interpol alert to have Hamza Kashgari arrested in Malaysia, where he fled for his life after Saudis began calling for his death. By helping the Saudis capture Kashgari, Interpol has become an international Sharia enforcement unit. People who flee the Muslim world to escape punishment can now be rounded up by Interpol and returned to their countries to face Islamic penalties for apostasy, criticizing Muhammad, etc.

THE GUARDIAN–Interpol has been accused of abusing its powers after Saudi Arabia used the organisation’s red notice system to get a journalist arrested in Malaysia for insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

Police in Kuala Lumpur said Hamza Kashgari, 23, was detained at the airport “following a request made to us by Interpol” the international police cooperation agency, on behalf of the Saudi authorities.

Kashgari, a newspaper columnist, fled Saudi Arabia after posting a tweet on the prophet’s birthday that sparked more than 30,000 responses and several death threats. The posting, which was later deleted, read: “I have loved things about you and I have hated things about you and there is a lot I don’t understand about you … I will not pray for you.”

More than 13,000 people joined a Facebook page titled “The Saudi People Demand the Execution of Hamza Kashgari”.

Clerics in Saudi Arabia called for him to be charged with apostasy, a religious offence punishable by death. Reports suggest that the Malaysian authorities intend to return him to his native country.

Kashgari’s detention has triggered criticism by human rights groups of Malaysia’s decision to arrest the journalist and of Interpol’s cooperation in the process.

Jago Russell, the chief executive of the British charity Fair Trials International, which has campaigned against the blanket enforcement of Interpol red notices, said: “Interpol should be playing no part in Saudi Arabia’s pursuit of Hamza Kashgari, however unwise his comments on Twitter.

“If an Interpol red notice is the reason for his arrest and detention it would be a serious abuse of this powerful international body that is supposed to respect basic human rights (including to peaceful free speech) and to be barred from any involvement in religious or political cases.” (Read more.)

If you have anything you want to look up on Wikipedia, you’d better do it today, or you’re going to have to wait a full 24 hours to get your answer. Why? Well, Wikipedia will be leading a number of high-profile websites going dark on Wednesday to protest two controversial bills in Congress. SOPA, also known as the Stop Online Piracy Act in the House of Representatives, and PIPA, the Protect I-P Act in the Senate, are designed to crack down on the illegal sharing of movies and music on the Web. However, critics say the anti-piracy legislation is censorship and would force sites to police the online world.

On Twitter, Jimmy Wales, co-founder of Wikipedia, confirmed that all of Wikipedia’s 3.8 million English-language articles will be unavailable from midnight Eastern time tonight until midnight Wednesday. Anyone who visits the site will be redirected to a banner that reads “The Internet must remain free.” Also joining Wikipedia in going black are Reddit, Minecraft, Craigslist, and Boing Boing, among others. Craigslist has posted a message at the top of its city homepages with a link to “help put a stop to this madness” of SOPA and PIPA.

The Obama administration, as well as Congress, seem to be listening to the critics. In a blog post, the White House said it would not support “legislation that reduces freedom of expression … or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet.” And House Majority Leader Eric Cantor said a vote would not come up for SOPA until a consensus is reached. By the way, if you’re a fan of any of the sites that are planning to participate in the blackout, don’t worry: You can still tweet about it as much as you want. Twitter will still be up and running. In fact, CEO Dick Costolo tweeted this about the sites choosing to go dark: “Closing a global business in reaction to single-issue national politics is foolish.”

There will be a Town Hall on January 10 put on by CIJA which will deal with the issue of Section 13. One of the key note speakers is Richard Warman. This man wants the video Fitna to be classified as hate. This would mean that the showing of ‘Third Jihad’, ‘Obsession’ and other videos that expose radical Islam would fall under the same classification. And this classification would be a danger to the Jewish Community. CIJA must have to answer. A Jewish Group must represent the Jewish People and not selfish individual interests.

‘Clean up your website’: Indian court orders Facebook and Google to remove ‘anti-religious’ content

Social websites including Google and Facebook have been ordered by an Indian court to remove all ‘anti-religious’ and ‘anti-social’ content within six weeks.

On Saturday a Delhi Court ordered 22 social networking sites, including Yahoo and Microsoft, to wipe the objectionable and defamatory contents and file compliance reports by February 6, 2012.

The order will raise serious questions about how users’ posts and opinions will be edited, censorship and freedom of expression.

On December 22 Judge Kumar had issued summonses to the social networking sites, demanding they remove photographs, videos or texts that might offend religious sentiments, the Hindustan Times website reported.

The order comes a day after a criminal court issued summonses to the sites for facing trial for allegedly webcasting objectionable contents.

Santosh Pandey, appearing for complainant Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi, told The Hindu Times after the court hearing that the websites have to submit a report to the court by February 6 describing the action they had taken to remove the contents from the websites.

Representatives of Yahoo India Pvt Ltd and Microsoft told the court that they had not got copies of the order and complaint against them, but Qasmi’s counsel told the court that he would supply the relevant documents to them, according to the Hindustan Times.

The order comes at a controversial time as IT minister Kapil Sibal had recently discussed with representatives of some of the companies ways to guarantee the offensive contents are not posted.

India Today quoted him as saying: ‘There were some demeaning, degrading, clearly pornographic depictions of gods and goddesses which no reasonable, sensible person anywhere in the world would accept, on any site.

The minister insisted he was not smothering free speech but was suggesting screening possible ‘incendiary’ material.

The Hindu Times reported Facebook India, Facebook, Google India Pvt Ltd, Google Orkut, Youtube, Blogspot, Microsoft India Pvt Ltd, Microsoft, Zombie Time, Exboii, Boardreader, IMC India, My Lot, Shyni Blog and Topix were all given the order.

A Google spokesperson told the website: ‘We comply with valid court orders wherever possible, consistent with our long standing policy.

‘We’re yet to receive the details of this order and can’t comment on this specific case.’

Additional Civil Judge Mukesh Kumar passed the order on a suit filed by Mufti Aijaz Arshad Qasmi seeking to restrain the websites from circulating objectionable and defamatory contents.

All of the posts were deleted and Matt found it necessary to shut down that account. Matt also uploaded some videos to the SDAMatt0 channel, but this was temporary.

Several posts on 1389 Blog, as well as on Blazing Cat Fur, contain video embeds that link to the old sdamatt2 channel that no longer exists; thus, those embeds no longer work. It would be an arduous and expensive task for Matt to re-upload his entire video library to the new account. Until and unless he or someone else uploads the videos again, they will not be available online. We regret the inconvenience.

BY JAY ZABLAN – I just read the Hawaii Reporter article on the cost of President Barack Obama’s last Christmas vacation and wondered why he isn’t more considerate of the costs he runs up every time he visits here. With America in such dire financial straits he still thinks nothing of spending a few million here or there, especially lately on his cross-country campaign jaunts and on Canadian buses.

I endured the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation traffic snarls when I carelessly left my Honolulu condo to visit a friend in Wahiawa, and had to wait quite a bit while the Obama entourage passed last year in Kailua. And now he announces the “good news” that he’ll be back with his family AGAIN during the holidays.

I was furious when he claimed, “Americans have been lazy and need to do a better job of selling America”. Yet his own type of “laziness” was thoughtlessly evident in not asking leaders to wear the custom-made Hawaiian shirts for the APEC group photo shoot, which would have been seen worldwide and been a boon in promoting Hawaii. He just doesn’t get it.

I believe it would be a good time for a poll on how Hawaii residents feel about his multi-million dollar Hawaii vacation expenditures and the traffic delays he causes every time he visits. Many are already upset at him for dissing Hawaii and our Aloha shirt. Oh, and Hawaii is NOT Asia.

P.S. I would gladly sign an online petition asking him to please not come back here. Hawaii can do without his manner of “Aloha”.

Both nurses and teachers have been frequenting Occupy events at the behest of their unions. As we have already mentioned, Occupy encampments are public health hazards. Before these teachers and nurses are allowed to return to work, is anyone examining them to make sure that they are not bringing parasites and contagious diseases into their hospitals and classrooms? Didn’t think so.

As the footage reveals, NNU in association with the AFL-CIO sent over 1,000 nurses from across the country, public and private sector, all expenses paid. It’s pretty sad to think that American veterans are sitting in a hospital room wondering where their nurse went.

Police issued four tickets from Friday to Monday morning to people smoking in the park and having an open flame, police spokesman Zach Friend said. One woman also was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

Sheriff’s deputy April Skalland said deputies have issued 16 tickets for illegal lodging and arrested seven people around the protest since Oct. 7. The arrests have been for being drunk in public, being under the influence of drugs, and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, Skalland said.

Police said there have been reports of ringworm and scabies at the camp in recent days. County officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment about health conditions at the camp.

Lane said he planned to continue talks with Occupy campers this week.

Want to Peek Inside Occupy Wall Street’s ‘Sorta-Secret’ Media Center?

It‘s no secret that Occupy Wall Street’s flagship operation in Zuccotti Park has a media team of sorts. Originally, they and their hodgepodge array of equipment were kept in a tent, but the team moved in October to a $400 per month room in Manhattan and Wired.com got a look inside and interviewed the unofficial media headquarters for the nationwide OWS movement.

Occupy happenings are live streamed by their media team through Global Revolution, which claimed it has been live streaming footage since Sept. 17. Wired reports that the activists monitor hundreds of live stream feeds, publishing the best:

“It’s really important that it’s decentralized so people can tell their own stories,” said [the 26-year-old, bandana-bedecked man named] Spike. “We get to report these stories before any mainstream media do. We break the news, and they pick it up.”

In terms of actual location, Wired reports that the team is “skiddish” about disclosing location:

“We don’t need right-wing wingnuts firebombing us,” said Spike.

That may be an extreme case, but security is a legitimate concern. That day, Nov. 9, a portion of the Occupy St. Louis website suffered a type of attack called a SQL database injection, said a media team member who goes by Jay. He’s an active participant in Anonymous who works in IT security by day.

An “active participant in Anonymous who works in IT security by day”?! “Anonymous” is a hacker’s group. The IT shop hired a fox to guard their henhouse. That’s what they get for being careless enough to employ a leftist. I wonder whose confidential data is at stake. Perhaps yours?

A teenager who allegedly claimed explosives were hidden in government buildings has lost his bid for name suppression.

That’s despite his lawyer’s plea that publication could potentially mark the young Muslim as having links to international terrorism.

Ifraaz Joseph, 18, pleaded not guilty to one charge of threatening to harm people or property when he appeared in Manukau District Court this morning.

Defence lawyer Giles Harvey applied for interim suppression to be continued, arguing that his client’s Muslim background combined with what was being alleged could create a public backlash and put him and his family at risk.

There was the potential people could wrongly perceive links with international terrorism, he said.

Mr Harvey also argued that Joseph’s name was very similar to other male members of his family and publication could wrongly implicate them in the alleged crime.

Furthermore, “publication of his name might cause public stigma against the defendant regardless of whether he is acquitted or not”.

Judge Heather Simpson said she took into account Joseph’s young age: “he’s still at school and he should be protected, to some extent, from the foolishness of his own actions.”

However, she decided the seriousness of the charge, and the genuine public interest “in matters of this kind”, outweighed the potential harm publication could have on Joseph and his family.

She ordered that the defendant be referred to by his middle name, Ifraaz, to avoid possible confusion with other family members.

Mr Harvey also asked for a variation of Joseph’s bail conditions to allow him limited access to the internet to enable him to finish school assignments.

Judge Simpson postponed hearing this application until October 19 when further written material could be made available.

There will also be a case review hearing on November 22.

Joseph allegedly intended to cause significant disruption to the Government by suggesting there would be explosions in municipal buildings, court documents show.

The video, which was posted onto YouTube on September 6, also said Government and media websites would be hacked.

The threats were allegedly part of a protest against the new Copyright (Infringing File Sharing) Amendment Act that came into effect earlier this month, police said.

Acting Detective Inspector Pete Jones of the Counties Manukau CIB said after the arrest that police took such threats very seriously.

Multiple areas of the police force worked together closely on the investigation, he said.

“Counties Manukau CIB and Wellington District were able to draw on the expertise of the National Cyber Crime Centre (NC3) and the Electronic Crime Laboratory to help us locate this individual.”

He said the investigation showed police could trace individuals who made serious threats on the internet.
