The site admins COULD unblock these individual sites if they were aware of this and felt like making the effort, but as a practical matter, they generally can’t be bothered.

And how many workers, students, hotel guests. and WiFi customers are willing to stick their necks out that far? How many people would risk getting involved in a major brouhaha, every single time they want to have an individual blog removed from the blacklist?

It also puts good blogs out of business. We aren’t about to travel around the world to ask every censorware site admin to take our blogs off their blacklist!

I’m an IT consultant as well, and I still wholeheartedly recommend Sonicwall to my customers. This incident, while unfortunate, is no reason to blacklist an entire company’s products.

Let’s not forget that a Sonicwall firewall administrator can easily unblock a given site, so this is not a big deal.

Here’s what I wrote in my latest submission on their stupid form:

I think you guys are losing your minds. This site has been reclassified several times over the last few days and it invariably goes right back to being listed as a hate site. It is no such thing!

As an IT consultant to business I will be watching to see if you can get your act together. If you cannot, I will be strongly recommending against SonicWall to my clients. Please have an actual person look at this site and give it an honest assessment. It clearly is not related to hate or any of the other bogus categories it has recently been assigned to.

This symptom strikes me as being the result of someone using a series of chained computers, perhaps controlled by trojans, or a very sophisticted proxy network, in order to “stuff the ballot box.”

On the other hand, it might actually be someone within Sonic Wall itself or a very organized group of Leftofascist bloggers/activists behind this kind of flip-flopping of ratings.
